Wedding ceremony at Machias Meadows in Snohomish, Washington

Emily and Tyler planned their Machias Meadows wedding not long after graduating college, stepping into a new season of life together surrounded by the people they love most dearly. As Washington natives, it was important to them that their wedding felt grounded in the kind of place they grew up in—something that reflected their small-town roots, their love for the outdoors, and their faith.

With a large group of friends and close-knit family, they needed a venue that could comfortably hold everyone while still feeling personal. Machias Meadows gave them that balance. It offered the space they needed without losing the natural, laid-back setting they were drawn to. Their day was centered on connection—time with loved ones, meaningful moments, and a shared appreciation for being together in a place that felt like home.

My photography style fits naturally into days like this. I’m drawn to environments that highlight God’s creation and the sense of adventure that comes with being outside. I focus on true-to-color imagery and honest moments—capturing the real interactions, the sacred and joyful moments, and the connections that tell the full story of a wedding day.

About Machias Meadows

Located in Snohomish, Washington, Machias Meadows is an outdoor wedding venue known for its open fields, mountain views, modern and rustic barns, and quiet, rural setting. It’s tucked away from busy areas, which gives couples a more relaxed and personal environment for their wedding day.

One of the main reasons Machias Meadows is so popular is because of how versatile the space is. It works well for couples who want an outdoor-focused wedding without sacrificing comfort or structure. The property has wide open areas for ceremonies, space for large guest counts, and a natural backdrop that doesn’t need much added decor. For couples like Emily and Tyler, who wanted something that reflected their small-town roots and love for the outdoors, it’s an perfect fit.

Another big draw is the size of the venue. Machias Meadows can accommodate larger weddings while still feeling organized and intentional. Guests have room to move, connect, and enjoy the setting without feeling crowded, which makes a big difference throughout the day.

The Ceremony and Reception Spaces

One of the biggest strengths of Machias Meadows is the variety of spaces available, all on one property. This makes it easy to host your entire day in one place while still having distinct areas for each part of the wedding.

For ceremonies, couples can choose between outdoor and indoor options. The lawn is the most popular, with open views of the fields and surrounding landscape, and it can accommodate large guest counts comfortably. If you prefer something covered or more intimate, the original barn offers a rustic indoor setting that still feels connected to the property.

For receptions, the venue has two main options. The modern pole barn is the largest space, designed for bigger weddings with plenty of room for dining and dancing, plus an outdoor patio overlooking the fields. The historic barn is smaller and works well for more intimate receptions or a cozy dance floor later in the night.

There are also getting-ready spaces on site, including a renovated farmhouse used as a bridal suite, along with practical amenities like parking, restrooms, and open space for guests to gather throughout the day. The layout is simple and easy to navigate, which helps the day flow smoothly without needing to move between locations.

Timeline Tips for Your Machias Meadows Wedding

Based on my experience at the venue, here are a few suggestions I would make as you think about building your timeline. These tips will help your day run smoothly and ensure you get the dreamiest photos possible!

  1. Plan your ceremony later in the afternoon. The sun sets behind the outdoor ceremony location, so if your ceremony is in the morning or mid-day, the sun will be directly in your eyes. The later it is, there will be a beautiful golden glow behind you.
  2. Set aside a good amount of time for couples portraits. With so many beautiful landscapes, having an hour to explore will be well worth it. Down by the river, in front of the barn, and in the highland cow pasture are all gorgeous and will provide variety to your gallery.
  3. Aim for couples photos near sunset time. Especially in the cow pasture, the golden lighting is MAGIC!
  4. Include lots of buffer time! As wonderful as the large property is, traveling between all the beautiful sites can take extra time in the timeline. This won’t be a problem at all if you intentionally give yourself more time than you think you need. It’s worth it to have an unhurried, peaceful day.

Machias Meadows Wedding Photographer

If you’re planning a Machias Meadows wedding, choosing the right photographer matters just as much as choosing the venue. With a space like this—open fields, mountain views, and multiple ceremony and reception areas—you want someone who knows how to work with natural light and document the day as it unfolds.

My approach to photographing weddings here is simple and intentional. I focus on documenting real moments as they happen while using the natural setting to add depth and context to your images. You won’t be pulled away for long or asked to do anything that feels forced. Instead, I guide when needed and step back when it matters most.
