As a photographer local to Leavenworth, I’ve noticed it has become quite the popular destination for surprise proposals. Which, personally, I am a huge fan of! Give me all the romance! With it’s beautiful mountain scapes, and quaint downtown, Leavenworth truly is the perfect location to get engaged at any time of year. With several luxury hotels, fantastic restaurants, and outdoor adventures, planning a romantic weekend get away in Leavenworth is easy!
Proposal Planning
When Aleks messaged me, asking if I’d be able to photograph his proposal to Caroline, just a few days after Christmas, my answer was immediately yes. Aleks and Caroline were visiting Washington from the midwest, out for a weekend ski trip, and Aleks wanted to make the trip unforgettable for Caroline… by getting down on his knee!
He wasn’t sure where he wanted to propose, so I suggested Lake Wenatchee State Park. Nothing beats Lake Wenatchee in the winter. Even when the town of Leavenworth doesn’t have snow, which happened to be the case this particular winter, Lake Wenatchee is far enough into the mountains that it usually has at least a couple inches. The snow makes for the most magical scenery, it’s rarely crowded, and it’s easy to get to. Once the location was decided, we hopped on a quick phone call, where we talked through details, and then we waited for the day to arrive!
The morning of the proposal, Aleks messaged me a photo of him and Caroline together, as well as the details of what clothing they were wearing, so I’d know who to look for. My husband came with me to take a video for them, so we waited at a nearby picnic table while we kept our eye out for them. These moments before a proposal always give me the excited butterflies… watching people experience the joy of getting engaged never get’s old! I can hardly handle the anticipation!
The Proposal
When Aleks and Caroline arrived, I spotted them right away in their dressy attire and got into position as they walked down toward the lake. They talked for a moment and grabbed some selfies, and then the moment arrived. Aleks got down on his knee and Caroline jumped up and down, squealing with joy! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen someone so excited. From this moment and through the rest of our time together, she kept repeating the words, “I’m so happy! I’m just so happy!” over and over again. Her joy and excitement was contagious and so precious to witness!
After giving them a few moments of alone time to take it all in, we spent some time taking engagement portraits. They were up for any of my creative whims, which made it such a blast! They were rolling in the snow, throwing snowballs at each other, dancing, laughing, and reveling in the moment.
I truly am so honored every time I get to be a part of moments like these.
