What Are Senior Portraits?
As a Leavenworth senior portrait photographer, my goal is always to capture the essence and personality of the people I photograph. The whole point of a senior portrait session is to showcase who YOU are in this unique season of YOUR life. Not simply to capture some generic photos of you smiling in front of the mountains, but to really take photos that encapsulate the beautiful person you have become up to this point. I do that through incorporating your hobbies, favorite outfits, favorite music, and favorite locations, as well as your specific vibe preferences… do you like to laugh, or do you prefer more serious photos?
Breigh’s Senior Portrait Sessions
Breigh is one of the seniors who truly came into her photos with a clear vision of exactly how she wanted to showcase her personality. For years, she’s been a big fan of the band Lord Huron, an alternative indie-folk style band that creates music with an outdoorsy, adventurous, ethereal vibe. As a lover of the outdoors and whimsical styled clothing, this fit Breigh perfectly. So when she reached out to me, asking if we could style her photos after the band’s music style, I was immediately obsessed.
Because Breigh booked an adventure session with me in the summer and a classic session with me in the fall, we were able to go to numerous locations and find various landscapes that all fit the vibe she was going for. One on the river with a wooden bridge, one on a rocky mountain top looking out over the valley during sunset, and one in the forest with some fall colors. Each of these played into the outdoorsy, whimsical look she wanted.
So, on a warm August evening, we began our first session up Icicle Rd in Leavenworth and walked down to the river, my speaker playing Lord Huron music in one hand and my camera in the other. The sun was flaring through the trees and we even saw a black bear as we looked down at the water below! Talk about the epitome of an adventure session!
After the river, we drove out of Leavenworth and into the Wenatchee foothills for the sunset. With a gorgeous view of the Enchantment mountains in the distance, the scenery could not have been more beautiful. Breigh did forget to pack her second skirt with her, but she had such a positive attitude about it, simply deciding to wear her first skirt again and embrace the fun, funkiness of the outfit. Honestly, I think the outfit ended up matching her girly, spunky personality perfectly!
A few months later in October, we met for an early morning session in the forest. Although it was raining, the trees provided us with some protection and it slowed down to a drizzle right as we began taking photos. For this session, Breigh not only wanted to maintain the ethereal Lord Huron vibe, but also wanted to incorporate her faith, bringing her Bible with her for some of the photos. This made her session even more personal and special to her, capturing what was important and valuable in her life story up to this point.
